Transforming the Work Experience of Members in Coworking Spaces: Theory-Based Interventions
Wendell C. Taylor
What the paper says
Abstract: One aftereffect of the COVID-19 pandemic has been renewed interest in alternatives to traditional work offices. One such alternative is the coworking space, which combines the structure and community of the traditional office with the freedom and independence of freelance work. Despite growing interest in coworking spaces, I found no publications describing interventions to improve this work experience. Therefore, I evaluated two interventions, Booster Breaks (15-min health-promoting breaks) and work sprints (public accountability for achieving work goals), as initiatives to improve the coworking space experience. Among the five critical components of the coworking space experience (community, collaboration, amenities, location, cost), community, collaboration, and amenities can be enhanced by Booster Breaks and work sprints to advance this evolving and autonomous work community.
