What the paper says

An assessment of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and United States public policy is presented in this study. Specifically, the objective is to advance understanding of how the operation and possible integration of commercial UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS) is influenced by current public policy. Five policy areas are examined: 1) Historical overview of the dual mandate of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); 2) Origins and history of FAA small UAS integration guidance into the NAS; 3) UAS safety; 4) UAS privacy concerns; and 5) Potential economic benefits of UAS. From these five policy areas, eight strategies are presented that could potentially assist the FAA in expediting commercial UAS integration in the NAS.
