Abstract
It has come to the attention of the publisher that the article “Acceptance of protection technology in a time of fear: the case of Covid-19 exposure detection apps”, Information Technology & People, Vol. 35 No. 3, pp. 1116–1135, https://doi.org/10.1108/ITP-10-2020-0719, features errors in Tables 2, 3 and 5.Table 2: One item originally listed under Perceived fear of COVID-19 (“My hands become clammy when I think about COVID-19”) was presented with a loading despite a footnote stating it had been deleted from the model. The corrected Table 2 removes this item entirely and updates the loadings accordingly.Table 3: Updates have been made to the composite reliability (CR), average variance extracted (AVE) and inter-construct correlations to reflect the corrected measurement model.Table 5: Table 5 has been updated to include the unstandardised estimates for consistency and clarity of presentation only. The authors sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.Table 2Descriptive analysis and item loadingsConstruct and sourceItemLoadings*Intent to use“I intend to use the AMAN app during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak”0.964“I will always try to use the AMAN app during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak”0.962“I plan to use the AMAN app during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak”0.926“My hands become clammy when I think about COVID-19”**DeletedPerceived fear of Covid-19“I am afraid of losing my life because of COVID-19”0.653“When watching news and stories about COVID-19 on social media, I become nervous or anxious”0.626“I cannot sleep because I'm worried about getting COVID-19”0.848“My heart races or palpitates when I think about getting COVID-19”0.533“How worried are you personally about COVID-19?”0.654“How likely do you think it is that you will be directly and personally affected by catching COVID-19 in the next 6 months?”0.858Perceived risk of Covid-19“How likely do you think it is that your friends and family in Jordan will be directly affected by catching COVID-19 in the next 6 months?”0.751“How much do you agree or disagree that the COVID-19 will affect very many people in the country I'm currently living in?”0.847“How much do you agree or disagree that you will probably get sick with COVID-19?”0.577“How much do you agree or disagree that getting sick with COVID-19 can be serious?”0.709I feel that I need the AMAN app to protect myself during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak0.837Protection motivationI feel that I need AMAN to protect others during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak0.778I believe that it is necessary to use the AMAN app to reduce the probability of COVID-19 infection0.811Everyone can make a difference when it comes to reducing the risk of COVID-190.949Self-efficacyIf I follow the government's recommendations to fight COVID-19, I can make a difference in helping to secure society from COVID-190.903It is worth everyone to making efforts to reduce the risk of COVID-190.936Using the AMAN app is useful to protect me from the Covid-19 pandemic0.919Response efficacyUsing the AMAN app increases my attention to the Covid-19 pandemic0.931Using the AMAN app helps me reduce the time it takes to identify infected cases in contact with me0.805The use of the AMAN app enhances the efficiency of epidemiological surveillance to isolate people in contact with infected cases during the COVID-19 pandemic0.850Note(s): *All loadings are significant at 0.000**Deleted because it increases residual of the modelTable 3Reliability, convergent validity and discriminant validityConstructAlphaCRAVE123456Perceived fear of Covid-19 (1)0.8170.7640.4550.675Perceived risk of Covid-19 (2)0.8800.8770.5470.6330.739Self-efficacy (3)0.9340.9500.8640.4590.4290.930Protection motivation (4)0.8450.8500.6540.5680.4240.6640.809Intent to use (5)0.9650.9660.9040.3960.4240.7690.6030.951Response Efficacy (6)0.9290.9310.7710.3620.3800.7910.6830.7860.878Table 5The maximum likelihood estimationEffectUnstandardised estimateStandardised estimate (β)SEt-valuep-valuePerceived risk of Covid-19 → Perceived fear of Covid-190.7060.6530.0927.6840.000Perceived fear of Covid-19 → Protection motivation0.1500.1620.0532.8100.005Self-efficacy → Protection motivation0.2260.4000.0395.8080.000Perceived risk of Covid-19 → Protection motivation0.0330.0330.0570.5860.558Response efficacy → Protection motivation0.3410.5510.0457.5710.000Protection motivation→ Intent to use1.4290.8300.12311.6430.000
