What the paper says

In the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare, telemedicine stands as a revolutionary approach, transforming the traditional in-person delivery of medical services. This innovative practice is defined as the remote provision of healthcare services through technology, utilizing real-time audio and video communication, along with traditional telephone exchanges, for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Before the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine in the United States faced limited adoption. Evidence reveals that a mere 2.4% of enrollees in large employer health plans with outpatient services had experienced at least one telehealth service in 2018 (Rae et al., 2020). This statistic underscores the underutilized potential of telemedicine, highlighting a landscape in which its transformative capabilities were yet to be fully embraced. During the pandemic, the adoption of telemedicine has significantly surged due to its effectiveness in reducing human interactions and preventing the spread of COVID-19 infections. Today, telemedicine is an important method for health professionals to diagnose and treat patients since it shows multiple benefits, including saving transportation and costs and providing flexibility and convenience for both patients and physicians. As we delve into the evolution of telemedicine, we uncover a journey marked by technological advancements and a paradigm shift in how healthcare is accessed and delivered. This work explores the benefits of telemedicine adoption, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities that paved the way for telemedicine’s meteoric rise, ultimately reshaping the healthcare landscape in unprecedented ways.
