What the paper says
We present some insights on collaborative gain sharing based on "Going to the Beach Exercise" from a recent paper.We propose two gain sharing algorithms in the case of actual carpooling with the car's wear and tear taken into consideration.We provide algebraic expressions for the volume-based allocation rule, the Shapley value and also for our proposed rules with mileage or wear and tear factored in.Furthermore, we show that our two proposed rules are equivalent for a special case.We also discuss the scenario of how frequent travelers may negotiate gain sharing to their advantage if they have privileges such as free parking at the beach.
