Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of Lean Distribution on both operational and environmental performance in Morocco’s automotive and aerospace industries. Design/methodology/approach This study adopts a qualitative exploratory research design to investigate the impact of Lean Distribution on operational and environmental performance in Morocco’s automotive and aerospace industries. Data were collected through 23 semistructured interviews with experienced professionals, including supply chain managers, project managers and directors. The collected data were analyzed using NVivo software, following six thematic categories: company profile, conceptualization, implementation, operational performance, environmental performance and customer satisfaction. Findings The results highlight the strategic importance of Lean Distribution in enhancing both operational efficiency and environmental performance within Morocco’s automotive and aerospace industries. Companies have successfully adapted Lean principles to the Moroccan industrial context, aligning with international standards while addressing local constraints. The findings show that Lean Distribution contributes to improved process efficiency, waste reduction and customer satisfaction, while also supporting environmental sustainability goals. Furthermore, the study reveals growing interest in the integration of digital technologies and ecological transition practices to further optimize dual performance. Originality/value This research is one of the few studies to explore Lean Distribution in emerging economies, specifically within Morocco’s automotive and aerospace industries, which are experiencing rapid growth. It provides empirical evidence on how Lean principles are contextually adapted to balance operational efficiency and environmental sustainability. The study contributes to academic literature by expanding understanding of lean applications beyond developed countries and offers managerial insights for optimizing dual performance amid the challenges of industrial ecological transition and digital transformation.
