What the paper says

Purpose – This paper aims to identify the relationships between dynamic capability (DC) on supply chain performance (SCP) and sustainability performance (SP) in Korean logistics firms considering the moderating effect of a supply chain strategy (SCS). It explores how SCP affects SP, analyzes the mediating role of SCP between DC and SP, and investigates the moderating effect of adopted SCS on the relationship between DC and SCP. Design/Methodology – We constructed a research model and proposed hypotheses based on a literature review and face-to-face interviews. Then, three constructs and eight dimensions were developed for questionnaires. The survey was distributed directly and via e-mail to employees of Korean logistics firms. We conducted exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, reliability and discriminant validity analyses, structural equation modeling for mediation and moderation effect. Findings – The findings verify the positive effects of dimensions of DC on dimensions of SCP and dimensions of SCP on dimensions of SP. However, dimensions of DC had no significant impact on dimensions of SP. The mediating effects of dimensions of SCP on the relationship between DC and SP dimensions were partially supported. The moderating effects of adopting SCS between dimensions of DC and IP dimension of SCP were rejected but those between dimensions of DC and EP dimension of SCP were supported. Originality/value – This study provides valuable insights regarding dimensions of DC’s effectiveness in directly improving SCP and SP dimensions and indirectly enhancing dimensions of SP according to adopted SCS.
