A reference information systems architecture for collaborative condition monitoring

Abstract
Collaborative Condition Monitoring (CCM) is a novel type of service in manufacturing industries that helps organizations improve machine performance by sharing and analyzing machine data across organizational boundaries. This service requires organizations to share data, and they require data infrastructure that accommodates their organizational and technical requirements. For instance, sharing data with other organizations implies a necessity for implementing data sovereignty policies that help data providers retain control of their data. Data spaces are a prominent type of data infrastructure that serves precisely this purpose – enabling data sharing while upholding data sovereignty and mitigating typical concerns. In this paper, we present a reference architecture for data spaces enabling CCM services. We pursue a design science research approach and integrate edge and cloud layers for seamless data sharing and analysis. With this, we provide (a) a framework that guides CCM data space implementation and (b) an abstract model that is transferable to multiple scenarios.
