A Bibliometric Review of Research on Mining Brownfield Landscape Design Based on CiteSpace

Based on an analysis of 450 articles retrieved from the Web of Science, this study employs CiteSpace (version 6.3.R1) to conduct a systematic and visualized bibliometric review of the literature on mining brownfield landscape design from the year 1981 to September 15, 2024. Unlike previous narrative reviews, this study integrates coauthorship, co-word, co-citation, and clustering analyses to map the intellectual structure and dynamic evolution of the field. It identifies the United States, China, Australia, and Germany as major contributors, with strong interdisciplinary linkages between environmental sciences and computer sciences. Key co-citation clusters, such as sustainable development, urban brownfield regeneration, coal mine brownfields, and ecosystem services, highlight both prevailing hotspots and emerging directions. This study reveals a notable transition from traditional soil remediation technologies to sustainability-driven regeneration strategies for mining brownfields. Furthermore, the increasing application of text mining and data analysis techniques signals a methodological shift in the research of this area. These findings not only fill a gap in the bibliometric analysis of a mining brownfield landscape but also provide a forward-looking perspective to guide future research priorities and interdisciplinary collaboration.
