What the paper says

Purpose This paper provides a comprehensive examination of transactional, transformational, and servant leadership theories, evaluating their relevance across contemporary organizational sectors. It also explores how emerging paradigms, like hybrid, inclusive, authentic, and agile leadership build upon classical frameworks to meet evolving challenges. Design/methodology/approach The paper applies a theory-based conceptual analysis, supplemented with real-world illustrations and sector-specific examples. The research includes a comparative evaluation of leadership styles, integrating insights from academic literature and applied organizational practices. The focus is placed on connecting leadership behaviors with contextual demands and emerging trends. Findings The analysis finds that while each leadership theory offers distinct advantages, their effectiveness depends on situational and sectoral factors. Leaders often benefit from adopting a flexible, integrative approach that blends elements of all three styles. The study also highlights how new leadership models such as agile and inclusive leadership build upon traditional theories to meet modern workplace challenges. Research limitations/implications This conceptual analysis may be complemented by future empirical studies to validate findings across specific industries and cultural settings. Practical implications Leaders and HR professionals can use the findings to tailor their leadership development strategies and adapt to sector-specific leadership demands. Originality/value This study adds value by combining foundational leadership theories with current applications and emerging trends. It broadens the scope of existing literature by linking classical leadership frameworks with practical implications for evolving organizational environments.
