What the paper says

The aim of this study was to examine the value chain of processed sea fish products in a local fishery community enterprise in Thailand and its implications for upgrading. This study applied six steps of value chain analysis (VCA) to assess the primary and support activities of the processed sea fish value chain. Semi-structured interviews, observation and focus groups were used to collect the data at each stage of the analysis. The results highlighted potential solutions to improve processed sea fish value chain performance, including developing outstanding packaging, creating solar-powered drying system technology, creating promotions, choosing direct transportation services and providing basic cost calculation knowledge to community enterprise representatives. After the community enterprise implemented the guidelines, it resulted in a reduction of waiting time and production time. This study appears to be the first study to investigate the value chain of processed sea fish in Thailand.
