What the paper says

We live in a time of global and intersecting crises that touch each one of us and which often feel overwhelming.Yet, transformation is possible and being achieved through innovative ways of relating. We adopt the term 'social innovation' here as an umbrella for new ways of thinking, acting, and organizing differently together that, in the spirit of action research, address unmet social needs and challenge dominant institutions (Cajaiba-Santana, 2014; Moulaert et al., 2013).Emerging in response to diverse issues, such as access to healthcare, unemployment, and decarbonization, social innovations have been found to generate more effective and sustainable solutions than top-down governments and competitive markets (Howaldt et al., 2021).
