Abstract

Off-leash dog parks are an essential community amenity in North America and elsewhere. As urban space becomes restricted while dog ownership is rising, providing spaces for humans – canine recreation is a significant community development consideration. It is important to provide quality off-leash spaces, which means ensuring park design meets human and dog needs/preferences. This article examines preferences of dog owners from across Canada for desired design elements. Respondents believed that off-leash spaces contributed to a more desirable community, citing their availability as a significant factor in choosing where to live.
