This study explores how cybersecurity strategies affect organizational performance and information system effectiveness. It also examines the impact of information system effectiveness on performance, the moderating role of knowledge management, and the mediating role of information system effectiveness in the relationship between cybersecurity strategies and performance. The target population of this study comprised employees in leadership, supervisory, and oversight roles at five public universities. Using stratified random sampling, 600 respondents were invited to participate. A total of 418 responses were received, of which 335 were deemed valid and used for analysis. The study employed PLS-SEM using Smart PLS 5.0 to test the inter-relationships among the constructs of interest in the study. The results indicate that all the hypotheses’ direct and indirect effects are supported. These findings offer theoretical and managerial insights. This study confirms that integrating knowledge and system capabilities with cybersecurity efforts is essential for institutional resilience. While valuable, the results are limited by the sample scope and methodology, inviting broader, comparative, and longitudinal future research. Expanding stakeholder inclusion and exploring additional variables could enrich our understanding. Overall, this study provides a solid foundation for the advancement of cybersecurity practices in higher education.
