Synergizing creativity, management knowledge and entrepreneurial skills: innovative behavior in the creative industries

Abstract
Purpose Drawing upon effectuation theory, this study aims to explore the impact of creativity, management knowledge and entrepreneurial skills on the innovative behavior of entrepreneurs within the creative industries, with a particular focus on the mediating role of entrepreneurial skills in these relationships. Design/methodology/approach Creative entrepreneurs’ perceptions of innovative behavior was examined using three key indicators of entrepreneurial success: creativity, management knowledge and entrepreneurial skills. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was employed to assess data collected from 78 entrepreneurs within the creative industries in the Douro region. Findings The results demonstrate that both creativity and management knowledge have a positive influence on entrepreneurial skills, which in turn significantly impact innovative behavior. In addition, the findings highlight that innovative behavior is largely dependent on entrepreneurial skills. Overall, the study highlights the critical role of entrepreneurial skills as a mediator in translating creativity and management knowledge into innovation within the creative industries. Originality/value The findings emphasize the importance of entrepreneurial training and managerial development as critical drivers of innovation and growth within creative industries. By focusing on the mediating role of entrepreneurial skills, this research highlights the need for targeted educational and professional development programs that nurture these skills, thereby enhancing innovation within the creative industries.
