Workplace incivility (WPI), though a subtle and ambiguous form of mistreatment, can have severe ramifications. With the recent rise in attention to workplace incivility in the Human Resource Development (HRD) field, there is an acknowledgement of its potential to seep and spiral, calling for greater investigation into mitigating its consequences. We review the literature on coping with WPI (using the Theories, Context, Characteristics, and Methodologies (TCCM) framework) with a view to direct attention to this understudied aspect and to surface its potential to either perpetuate or stall the spiral and spread of WPI. We argue for greater HRD attention towards coping, highlighting its linkage with organisational climate. In doing so, we outline several practical implications for the HRD managers and future research avenues for the HRD and other scholars.
