This fine collection focuses especially on Latin American communities and diasporas and seeks to advance our understanding of territorial pedagogies: that is, place-based approaches to community education that respond to local social and environmental conditions.We hope you will enjoy reading it as much as we have.For the remainder of the issue, we have selected articles and book reviews on topics relating to questions of space-and place-based community development, to thematically complement the special section.The first of these is 'Application of new genre public art in community empowerment: a case study of Chongqing Tie Lu San Cun Village, China,' by Guanxi Chen and Min Lee.New Genre Public Art is a form defined by community collaboration that works that address social issues.Since 2000, this has often involved collaborations between local governments and universities in China.Tie Lu San Cun Village was the site of a historic railway connection built in 1952, and formerly provided residential quarters for the families of railway workers.A project involving artists and students from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute transformed several buildings, spaces, and facilities in the village in a manner that spoke to the history and culture of the area, while also re-purposing old or discarded items.For example, old wheels were affixed to the side of a building to create the appearance of a steam locomotive.Evaluating the project, Chen and Lee note that while it achieved a certain level of success, it would have benefited from a stronger connection to current residents' lives, and more active community involvement by the
