What the paper says Price controls carry dual objectives: namely, enhancement of consumer and producer welfare and, as a result, macroeconomic stability. In this note, we explore whether price control policies, as led by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, has reduced Fiji’s exchange rate volatility. Using an empirical framework, we test this hypothesis with respect to exchange rate volatility and find that each month of price regulations reduce Fiji’s exchange rate volatility by around 3.5%.
