This chapter seeks to demonstrate, by way of a dissection of the New Economic Policy (NEP), why this policy paradigm should be viewed as a tool for securing the (post)colonial hegemony of capital over the small-scale sector. The connecting thread of our arguments are: the place and role of the small-scale sector in the Indian economy, the relation of NEP with this sector and how and why this relationship is to be seen as a case of postcolonial hegemony.
