The Attention-Based View (ABV) serves as a key theoretical lens for understanding how organizations process and allocate attention in dynamic environments. Despite its relevance, ABV research remains fragmented. Thus, this study consolidated ABV knowledge through a structural and bibliometric factorial analysis, mapping research trends and identifying gaps to enhance ABV applications. This study was conducted in several stages consistent with the systematic literature review process outlined by Tranfield. We conducted an indexed search on Scopus using the keywords ‘Attention-Based View’ and ‘Attention-Based Theory’, then filtered the results using the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) list. This study analyzed 169 Scopus-indexed articles (1997–2025) using structural methods to examine how methodological development and factorial analysis are employed to analyze theoretical research trends. The findings indicate that ABV evolves into a dynamic, multi-level framework; however, gaps remain in qualitative research and emerging markets. Additionally, ABV research is heavily concentrated in business and management disciplines, with limited exploration in other fields. The study also identified that theoretical approaches to research themes such as innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability, could be considered for future work. Furthermore, the study found that a concept often related to ABV is Organizational Change. Additionally, the study identifies underutilized methodological approaches, such as qualitative methods including in-depth interviews, that could enhance future ABV research. This study synthesizes ABV research, highlights gaps and proposes future research directions.
