Educational attainment and appreciation of workplace diversity

Purpose Relying on the unique questions of the Canadian General Social Survey, the present paper assesses how education associates with the value placed on workplace diversity. Design/methodology/approach We use multivariate regressions with a rich set of controls, as well as estimations correcting for sample selection and the endogeneity of education using an instrumental variable. Findings We find that education is positively associated with the outcome for both men and women. However, when education is instrumented using the changes in compulsory schooling laws, the estimations result in null findings. Originality/value This is the first paper examining the causal effects of education on the appreciation of workplace diversity.
